Traut Wells also handles Variable Speed Pump Systems. Variable Speed Pump Systems, also known as Constant Pressure Systems give the customer constant water pressure while using different amounts of water.
For example: If you are taking a shower, the pump will run at a certain speed to maintain your water pressure. If someone turns on a faucet while you are in the shower, the motor will speed up to maintain your water pressure. This system prevents fluctuating water pressure, extends the life of the motor and pressure tank, and saves energy.

Frequently Asked Questions
| Q: |
How do I chlorinate my well, and how often should it be done? |
| A: |
Disinfecting your well can be very beneficial. It can eliminate or reduce many kinds of bacteria and reduce unpleasant tastes and odors. Most homeowners can disinfect their own wells. To learn when and how to disinfect your well contact the Minnesota Department of Health. Contact Traut Companies if you would like us to perform this procedure for you.

|
| Q: |
How much water do I need? |
| A: |
Wisely planned, a dependable well can supply all the water you need now and into the future. A rule of thumb is to have a well produce a minimum of 5 gallons per minute (GPM). However, you need to take into consideration peak demands. These would include lawn irrigation systems, swimming pools, hot tubs, and extra guests. Whether your well produces 1GPM or 100 GPM, the staff at Traut Companies can design a water system to fit your needs.

| Q: |
Is there any preventative maintenance I can do? |
| A: |
Your pump and well system will run many years with very little maintenance. However, there are a few things that should be done annually to prevent any major problems.
- Check the following
- Pressure of your water system
- Draw-down of your pressure tank
- Contact points in the pressure switch
- For any leaks or rust spots
- Have your water tested
- Disinfect your well

| Q: |
What size pump and pressure tank do I need? |
| A: |
The standard size pump is a ½ HP with a 20-gallon capacity air tank. This is sufficient to operate most homes. However, you may want to consider a larger pump and tank if any of the following occurs:
- If your water usage will be higher than average because of a lawn irrigation system, swimming pool, hot tub, or extra bathrooms
- Or if your well depth is over 80 feet
Traut Companies can answer any of your questions and advise you of the best system to meet your needs.

| Q: |
When do I need to have a well abandoned? |
| A: |
From shallow sandpoint wells to dug wells to large diameter irrigation wells, Traut Companies has the equipment and expertise to handle these well sealing projects.
A well that is not in use can be a potential threat to health, safety, and the environment. Unused wells can provide a direct pathway for contaminants to enter the groundwater and threaten water quality for existing wells and new wells. They can also pose a safety hazard for children, pets, and livestock. According to Minnesota law, a well must be sealed in any of the following situations.
- The well is contaminated and cannot be corrected.
- The well has been improperly sealed in the past.
- The well poses a threat to the health or safety of the public or to groundwater quality.
- The well is not in use and does not have a maintenance permit.
YOU MAY NOT SEAL YOUR OWN WELL!!! ONLY A LICENSED WATER WELL CONTRACTOR MAY SEAL A WELL IN ACCORDANCE WITH MINNESOTA LAW.
