What are some early signs that my well needs service?

    • The pumping level starts to change
    • Pump starts to vibrate

Is there any preventative maintenance that I can do?
Your pump and well system will run many years with very little maintenance. However, there are a few things that should be done annually to prevent any major problems.

    • Inspect the pressure of your water system
    • Check the draw-down of your well
    • Verify that your system is free of any leaks or rust spots
    • Have your water tested
    • Disinfect your well
    • If you are having any problems with your water system contact Traut Companies

Why is my pumping water level changing?

    • The well screen could be getting incrusted
    • Fine silts against the back of the screen
    • Open hole filled with sand

When do I have to have a well sealed?
A well that is not in use can be a potential threat to health, safety and the environment. Unused wells can provide a direct pathway for contaminants to enter the groundwater and threaten water quality for existing and new wells. Unused wells can also pose a safety hazard for children, pets and livestock.

From shallow sandpoints to dug wells to large diameter irrigation wells and municipal wells, Traut Companies has the equipment and expertise to handle these well sealing projects.

According to the Minnesota law, a well must be sealed in any of the following situations:

  • The well is contaminated and cannot be corrected.
  • The well has been improperly sealed in the past.
  • The well poses a threat to the health or safety of the public or to groundwater quality.
  • The well is not in use, and does not have a maintenance permit.

You may not seal your own well! Only a licensed water well contractor may seal a well in accordance with Minnesota law.
